Mental Ray – Interior Lighting | TIPS

Fri Sep 5, 2008, 10:27 AM
Just some to help u guys :)

Have about 2 Pages more with the setup of Mental-Ray if anyone need it ;)

Everything is wrote by me please dont copypaste it else where.. just direct them to here....

TIPS

Overall scene lighting
Is the overall see too Dark or to light? Try increase or decrease Scale under Final Gathering. Override the
V Value for more light and decrease for less light.

Final Gather Speed Tweak
A minor change will give u significant smaller render time using a Final Gathering tweak and it’s called
“Rebuild”
To get a map file u can fill in the “Final Gather File” or you can just check Enable Map Visualizer and
uncheck again.
On = always rebuild. This tells Maya to build the Final Gather map every single time
Off = only rebuild when camera changes position. This tells Maya to updated saved Final Gather map.
Freeze = use Final Gather File ONLY. When map is done you should check this to be sure the map won’t
update or get overwritten.

Black spots or Hotspots
Try using the Final Gathering filter.
Render Global – Final Gathering – Filter
Try using a value of what u like 1 does the trick but maybe the scene scale is bigger then try another
number.

Color bleed
Having unwanted color bleed try uncheck” Final Gather Cast” it’s under the object attributes “Mental
Ray” and just uncheck the option called “Final Gather Cast”

Ambient Color
Try adjusting the ambient color to make the object popup a little or just to make it have a softer feel.
